From the Petersburg Pass parking lot on Rte. 2 we will spot at least one car at the Hopkins Forest parking lot in Williamstown. When the car spotters return, we will hike north on the TCT to the Snow Hole, passing the Birch Brook Trail intersection. After the Snow Hole, we return to the Birch Brook intersection and begin a very steep (1200' in 1.5-mile) descent to the more gentle terrain of Hopkins Forest trails.
Note that very wet or icy conditions or too few participants for the car spot will cancel the descent portion of the hike. Poles, sturdy footwear, perhaps some form of micro-spike.
Distance: approximately 6 miles, with 500' ascent to Snow Hole, and cumulative 1700' descent.
